The National Media Authority was established by Federal Decree-Law No. (11) of 2025 as a federal public authority affiliated with the UAE Cabinet. It enjoys legal personality, as well as financial and administrative independence, and possesses the necessary legal capacity to undertake all legal acts and actions required to achieve its objectives and implement its mandates. Under this decree, the Authority replaces the UAE Media Council, the National Media Office, and the Emirates News Agency (WAM) in all of their functions, rights, and obligations.

Roles

  • Proposing and preparing the state’s general media policies, directions and strategies and supervising their implementation.
  • Proposing, preparing and reviewing all legislations, regulations and decisions related to the national media sector.
  • Coordination with the state's media agencies to ensure unification of the state's media vision and media discourse locally and internationally.
  • Preparing, evaluating and monitoring the state's media narrative inside and outside the country.
  • Doing everything related to preserving and enhancing the country's name, reputation, and image.
  • Representing the state across all media platforms, on global and regional levels.
  • Proposing and implementing strategic media plans, legislations, regulations and decisions related to media development and monitoring their implementation in coordination with the relevant authorities.
  • Training and qualifying national media cadres.
  • Develop and organize the work of official spokespersons.
  • Preparing media research and field studies.
  • Coordination with all official and private media entities regarding national issues.
  • Developing strategic relationships with Arabic, regional and international media outlets, with the aim of exchanging best media practices.
